WandererFest 2020 Cancellation
It is with regret that the Association has taken the decision to cancel WandererFest 2020.
You are, of course, well-aware of the disruption caused to all outdoor activities by the social distancing and travel restrictions imposed by the government in their efforts to control the pandemic that have resulted in the cancellation of all WCOA events so far this year. Whilst the restrictions are gradually easing and it is becoming possible to return to the water, the Committee feels that even if, by early July, group gatherings are once again permitted the likely requirements for social distancing and other measures to prevent the transmission of infection (that are still to be confirmed) will have a detrimental effect to the smooth running of WandererFest and necessitate close supervision of activites and facilities to ensure full compliance with requirements. This will place an undesirable burden on the organising team and detract from the overall enjoyment of the event which, by intention, has socialising at its heart.
Shame that this has been cancelled as this would have been the first year I was able to make, but fully understand the decision.
However do we know if the location is still available for use?
I have a motor home and therefore shelf contained. I understand that the land owner only allows organised groups to use the camping ground.
Overnight restrictions may be lifted by then.

Hi David,
Thank you for your message. As far as we are aware the site (camping and sailing) is not currently open to visitors. We are also truly disappointed to be cancelling our favourite event of the year but we hope you understand our reasoning.
Would have been my first event too as I got the Wanderer last year. The campsite is closed at the moment anyway, although have been there with my sailing group many times in the past. (I had to cancel our weekend there in May)
Chichester Harbour is now open again for sailing from the public slipways though. The latest statement is on the harbour conservancy website and I believe launching is available at Itchenor. At the moment it is only family groups on boats though so if helm/crew are in the same household it is OK. https://www.conservancy.co.uk/page/latest-news#Covid%2019
I’m hoping to get down there for a day sail soon!

Hi John, many thanks for your support. Please keep an eye out for cruises and events later in the year!

Thanks for the update on Chichester Harbour.
