CRUISING
Sailors returning to the rural tranquility and natural beauty of Cobnor Point will be well accustomed to the arrangements for camping and cruising. After a year’s absence, we are delighted to be welcomed back to the Cobnor Estate by the new manager Holly Baker and owner Diana Beale. Hot showers will now be provided. We have the full week from Sunday September 1st to Sunday September 8th with exclusive use of the site to camp and sail for any or all of the days. Tides are favourable for day cruising.
Cruising will take place each day, Monday to Saturday, on the principle of cruising-in-company (with free sailing on either Sunday), subject to the weather and preference. As there will be no support boat sailors should be competent and equipped to sail independently in marine conditions. We will start with a briefing at 10 am to be on the water by 11 am. Destinations may include Dell Quay, East Head, Thorney, Emsworth and Langstone. Or do your own pottering. The slipway has an electronic winch for recovery of boats.
For camping, tents or motorhomes, select a pitch in the field known as Sea Park North and South. Campers should park their cars in the field. The visitor car park field to the left of the lane on arrival is the place, nearest to the shore, also to park boats. The loos and showers are located near the boat park. Depending on numbers we may complement Cobnor Estate facilities by renting a mobile loo-block for the camping field.
We have also reserved the option of accommodation at the adjacent Cobnor Activities Centre. The Centre is located immediately to the N shore side of Cobnor Estate and is linked by a footpath. WCOA members would be the only group staying in the Log Cabin or Trinity buildings.
Whether camping or staying at the Centre the two sites are close together and cruisers can all meet up, sail and socialise as a group. Self-catering will again be the norm. Members may also enjoy rambling around the lovely country and coastal walks. Dogs are welcome so long as your dog doesn’t bark a lot, is under control at all times and poop in the camping field is scooped. The local pub at Chidham may well be the focus of evening activities. Bring a torch!
Cruising days can be combined with coaching days and vice versa.
Tickets for all bookings for Cobnor Cruising are purchased online.
COACHING
Prior to booking for any of the training days please email richard.maltby9@gmail.com to check on availability of places and your requirements.
Training for Wanderer Cruising on Tuesday 3rd and Wednesday 4th September.
This two-day course will be held by the Association In conjunction with the Cobnor Activities Centre which is a RYA Recognised Training Centre. The course will be tailored to individual requirements within the general purpose of improving sailing competence and confidence in marine waters for Wanderers. Our lead instructor will be Andrew Powell who is an experienced Wanderer sailor and RYA qualified instructor.
Race Coaching on Thursday 5th September.
We are delighted that Ian Porter has agreed to lead the day as race sailing coach. Ian not only built Wanderers but also knows as a racer how to sail a Wanderer well and fast. Race coaching will also be in conjunction with Cobnor Activities Centre.
To help ensure that these courses meet individual requirements there will be a ratio of one safety / coaching boat per three Wanderers. The Wanderer Class lead instructor and a CAC senior instructor will be on the safety boat. Another Wanderer class coach, if requested, can join you on your boat. We will also have the use of the excellent onshore training facilities of Cobnor Activities Centre.
Coaching days can be combined with cruising days.
For more information, the joining form, WCOA subsidised training prices @ £50 per boat entry / day (helm and crew) and accommodation at CAC, please contact richard.maltby9@gmail.com, tel 07548 752823.
