Sailing at 660ft above Sea Level

By Peter Melling No! I haven’t been at the malt’s just yet, but this is the height above sea level where I sail Dion W1716 a Hartley Wanderer.  If you have driven the M6 through the Lake District, particularly on the southbound carriageway, you will have passed the Killington Services just after J37.  Next time I recommend you call in for a coffee walk through to the rear of the building and take a look at Killington reservoir in all it’s splendour.  You need to be logged in to view the rest of the content. Another Event Gains Momentum

Hi folks, It’s half a lifetime to October but by then we could be clear of all the restrictions….hopefully. Which means that the River Dart Laidback Weekend, postponed from last year, will go ahead all being well.  Because of the expected surge in UK staycation holidays, it will be smart to book accommodation ASAP. There has been a lot of interest in this years’ events – please email me or use the online form below. Please note The Manor Inn is FULLY BOOKED with Wanderers already! River Dart Laidback Weekend 2021

New Members Database

After a successful trial we have migrated the members database to the website. You might have seen an update on social media last night because at 20:29 the web server had a technical issue which reset some of the website. This was completely unrelated and just purely bad timing. I’d just like to reassure our members that no information was lost nor was any data breached and the site is back up and running. Please take a moment to login to the site and check your details are correct. Some of the bespoke information we keep was not transferred across, specifically boat number, method of payment and your co-owner (if you have one) so I’d like to ask you to double check your information is correct.

A NEW DATE FOR WANDERERFEST 2021

The Government announced on February 22 that all Covid restrictions are due to be lifted as from June 21 – let’s hope there is no postponement. Your National Committee realised that the original dates (June 9 – 13) would have required no more than 30 Wanderer folk attending, social distancing, and masks.      WandererFest is not the sort of event where social distancing and masks can be comfortably coped with to comply with the regulations.       Thanks to a lot of checking of this and that, involving Robin Gabbitas and Ray Tennant, including High Water times, the availability of the field at Cobnor, the use of the Bosham SC facilities at Cobnor, the marquee, and our own special loos, it is with great relief that we can announce that WANDERERFEST 2021 will now take place between THURSDAY and SUNDAY JULY 8 and 11. This is line with the guidance agreed at the

Website Changes and Updates to Members Database

Having taken over from Mike Hamilton back in April I wasted no time updating the website.  To those among you who are keen eyed or interested I have upgraded the system from an out of date MS Frontpage editor to a more current WordPress site.  This new system has more powerful software which enables a plethora of options we can choose from. One of these we have been trialling is a members section which we are going to roll-out to the members very soon. Many thanks to James Myers, Robert Gilmore, Tim Young and Peter Melling for being my beta testers.  This trial is more or less complete and in the coming days you should receive an automated email from the site. Having a logon on the website has a number of key benefits including members only content, mailing lists and forums but primarily that the members’ database is held on

Changes to the 2021 Programme

COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS HIT OUR 2021 PROGRAMME Updates from the Event Coordinator At the virtual 2021 AGM on February 27 I announced that both the April racing weekend at West Oxfordshire SC and the National Championships at Bewl in May have had to be cancelled because of the Government’s Coronavirus restrictions scheduled to be applicable at the scheduled time for these events. For the moment the Try-a-Wanderer picnic day by the Thames at Marlow SC on May 23 goes ahead because of the further easing of rules from May 17.  If this changes, details will be published here, on the Wanderer Web. WandererFest – the biggest event in our annual programme – is scheduled just before the June 21 lifting of all current restrictions.    The AGM agreed that a new date needed to be found between July 1 and September 30 subject to suitable tide times, the availability of our legendary superloos, and access to the site on
