Thursday June 29th to Sunday 2nd July
year, we hope to see another large gathering of Wanderer sailors at
Cobnor to share cruising, training, racing,
knowledge and socialising experiences with a group
of like-minded folk.
Let me try and whet your appetite..........
On arrival, you will see a marquee erected in Wood Park camping area of the field, furthest from the lane. This will be the focus for our social and evening activities. We are likely to have as many as forty people camping and you're welcome to select your own pitch. There are no hook-ups but a water tap is available in this area of the camp-site. We will be renting a luxurious, mobile loo-block with washbasins. We've hired these facilities to complement the facilities adjacent to the dinghy park.
For those unacquainted with the joys of camping, campervanning, caravaning or motorhoming, should find plenty of local B & Bs on-line.
Because of uncertainties surrounding the weather and the impact on attendance, it's appropriate for everyone to self-cater again this year. However, on Saturday evening, we have alerted an Indian takeaway (which is highly recommended) to prepare meals. We shall invite you to pre-order on Friday evening. We shall have BBQ's lit on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings near the marquee, so those who want to bring their own meat or veggie burgers can use them from 6.00pm. Most importantly, throughout the four days, there will be real ale provided in the marquee, with pint plastic beer beakers, and you'll be invited to help yourself and contribute £2 per pint. For local grocery needs, there is a Co-op store in Delling Lane (PO18 8NN) which is found by turning off the A259 at the roundabout signposted Bosham. There is another Co-op in Station Road, Bosham, (PO18 8NG) just off the A259.
Programme of Events
Each day will start with a briefing at 10.00am. We'll outline the activities for the day - training / cruising destinations / racing arrangements etc. social activities / games etc. On some days, there will be two cruises - a longer and shorter one. A safety boat will accompany the cruises. The cruisers will generally aim to be on the water by 11.00am.
The slip at Cobnor is accessible at all states of the tide and there is a winch to aid recovery.
Training, Tuning & Rigging Tips
Mike Bennett and Tim Robertson will be on hand again to provide help and support with any aspect of rigging, tuning and boat handling that you wish to raise.
Cruising will take place over the four days, subject to the weather. Destinations: Dell Quay, Emsworth / Langstone, East Head, Prinstead / Thorney. Please bring appropriate picnic food to take with you each day.
For those wishing to race, there will be the Bosham S.C. Medium Handicap race on the Sunday. Robin Gabbitas will brief you on the cost and details and collect your entry fees. On the Saturday, we'll have 2 short, back to back races in the morning and another short race in the afternoon from Cobnor. No need to enter either of these in advance. Details and entry forms will be provided on the day.
After our sailing, there will be informal games for those with enough energy to participate. More details at the briefing each day, but it would be fun to play some rounders, French cricket, petanque (boules) etc. Equipment will be provided. The area is very good for cycling, for those wishing to bring a bike and explore the lanes. On Friday evening, we'll be running a quiz. On Saturday evening, after the takeaway, musically talented Wanderers have been invited to accompany our post supper singing. We would encourage anyone with some musical or other 'act' to share these with us, so dust off your Stradivarius and come on down! Alastair, our resident 'Antiques Roadshow, silver expert will be quizzing us to guess the value of some silver items - or are they silver plate!?
